The National Beer Scoring Scheme (NBSS) is a 0-5 point scale for judging beer quality in pubs.
It is an easy to use system that has been designed to assist CAMRA branches in selecting pubs
for the Good Beer Guide and monitoring beer quality by encouraging CAMRA members to report on beer quality where ever they go.
As a CAMRA member you can enter a score for any pub in the UK by logging on to this system using your CAMRA membership number and the password you use on the national website.
The system lets you enter scores for each beer you try on a visit to a pub, beer festival or other event, or just give an overall score for the whole visit.
You can review a summary of the scores others have given for pubs in your branch, and branch committee members can see the details at the branch or regional level.
When adding a visit to a pub, you choose the pub from a list so the score will be accurately associated with the right pub.
Start by typing in the name of the pub - a list of possible choices is shown - click on the one that you want.
Then continue to type the town or village name. When you see the right choice offered, click on it to select it.
Alternatively, type the name of the town or village and click on the right one from the list of choices offered. Then type the pub name and click on the required one.
If you prefer you can also choose the pub by showing pub locations on a map. Type the name of the nearby town or village, then click on the pub's flag to select it.
Unfortunately the pub list does not yet cover the whole country.
So if the pub you have visited is not listed, click on the "Not listed" icon to show a map. Type in the pub's name and town, move the flag to the pub's location and click 'ok'.
The system will associate the entry with the right branch and they will update the database with the new information.
The 'Score' tab lists your recent visits, allows you to review and edit them and to add a new visit report.
The 'Stats' tab lets committee members see the best and worst results for their branch.
The 'My Account' tab shows details about your login session and is where the 'Logoff' button is to be found.
Also, this is where you can select to 'watch' your favourite pubs. You will then be sent a daily email listing the scores entered for these pubs.
Committee members can add scores for members of their branch, as long as they know the person's membership number. To do this you login as the member, but using your own password, by giving a "username" of their membership number and your own number separated by an asterisk. For example, if the member's number is 1234 and the committee member's number is 9876, a username of 1234*9876 must be given.
For general go to Discourse and select the Campaigning category and then Beer Scoring sub-category.
